Food? or Teeth?
"You must do what you love," she said, "Or you risk the chance of doing nothing."
I met with the admissions director for the Portland Art Institute Culinary programs today. She was great, and very helpful. The power went out in downtown P-town today, so besides the in-the-dark tour I took of the "kitchens" the experience was a lot less intimidating then I thought it would be. I actually love the location of the school, the atmosphere, the program layouts, everything. I told her I would have a decision by monday, but I'm 99% sure that Pastry school is where I'm heading.
I think that I could be really great as a dentist but will I be happy... I don't think so.
Now my big debate is, Pastry and Baking dipolma? Culinary Arts Associates? or Culinary Management Bachelor's Degree? I'm leaning more towards the baking and pastry degree, mainly because I'm sure I would like that... but.... The nice thing about the baking degree is that if I decide at the end of my program that I'd like to do the associates, or bachelor's degree I can transfer into either program and almost all of my credits will transfer. Which is super super cool.
Lots to think about this weekend.

So far...
After a highly disappointing, yet not surprising, New Years Eve, I decided that I was not going to be deterred. You can throw all the late MAX trains, bad weather and gun scares at me you want to 2010, your not going to bring me down.
Instead I got to work.
Eating healthier. check.
Working out more. check.
Sign up for Match.com and E-Harmony. check.
Set up meeting with meetings at all Portland based Culinary programs. check.
Not letting stuff get me down... uh... well 4 out of 5 isn't bad. Right?
A couple of things that bother me about the online dating websites that I've signed up for. Match.com doesn't seem to be anything more then an online bar, which makes me nervous, all you can do on that site is wink at someone or start hitting on them directly. Which makes me think that match is more looks based than compatibility based, eh. E-Harmony is a little more religious based then I thought it would be, but that doesn't bother me too much. And lastly, OkCupid, the free online dating service that my friend signed me up for seems to be the real world equivalent of a booty call (from the uglies). I'm a little put off by all this online nonsense, but, blah... I'm gonna keep doing it.
My first meeting at a culinary school will be on Thursday at 11 at The Portland Art Institutes's culinary program. I'm really excited. After doing a little more research about becoming a pastry chef, I decided that it was totally worth trying. If I'm bad at it, I can always fall back on dental assisting. Right now though... I'm leaping, and God willing, I'm going to land on my feet.
